Established in 1900, St. Bernard's Medical Center is now a 435-bed acute care hospital with approximately 300 physicians (representing more than 37 specialties) in active and consulting positions.  The hospital's emergency department has 31 beds, including six beds dedicated to the 24-hour a day Chest Pain Center- the emergency department is one of the busiest in the state, seeing more than 50,000 patients per year.

For the last 32 years, NEA Medical Center has been caring for Northeast Arkansas, and the hospital continues to seek new wyas to grow its level of service in every way.  The hospital is a 104-bed acute care facility, with an addition of another 50 beds planned for 2008.  Each of the NEA Medical Center's rooms is listed as private occupancy.
Several areas of the hospital have been recently updated and improved including an expanded emergency room, the implementation of a new PACS system and an upgraded medical records system.  Some of the medical center's many services include:  cancer services, emergency, neurology, outpatient therapy, pulmonary rehabilitation, radiology, respiratory services, surgical services, The Heart Institute of NEA, The Women's Center, and Wound Clinic.

HealthSouth Inpatient Rehabilitation Hospital of Jonesboro has been a part of hte city for nearly 20 years.  The 67,150 square foot facility has 67 licensed rehabilitation beds and more than 75 doctors from various specialties on staff.  According to the director of marketing, Melanie Wilcoxson, it is "the only free-standing inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Northeast Arkansas."
Wilcoxson also notes that the hospital is the only Stroke Center of Excellence in Arkansas and has received the honor of Parkinson's Proficient Accreditation by the Parkinson's of the Heartland Chapter.
Healthsouth offers advanced technology treatment, and uses equipment such as the AutoAmbulator, a groundbreaking device that assists people who have difficulty walking by helping them to replicate normal walking patterns.  In winter 2007, the hospital will begin using the NESS H200, a neuroprosthetic rehabilitation system as a non-invasive way to improve voluntary movement and hand function.

Outpatient Surgery Center of Jonesboro is a surgical center that focuses specifically on surgical and endoscopy procedures performed as a same-day procedure.  The 28,000 square foot facility has been open for four years.  Specialties include:  otalryngology (ENT), gastroenterology, general surgery, plastic surgery, gynecology, ophthalmology, orthopedics, podiatry, oral surgery, and urology.  A team of 70 credentialed physicians are on staff.

Doctors at the hospital use cutting edge technology such as Coblation, a tonsillectomy procedure that Dr. Bryan Lansford has been performing since 2006.  It is gentler on the patient, and has been shown to reduce medication use and pain following surgery, Lansford said.  The cool temperature technology like Coblation makes removing the tonsils less painful for children and allows them to return to normal activity sooner.
